About

What It Is

The Peak 2 Peak Gondola is a tricable gondola lift connecting Whistler Mountain's Roundhouse Lodge with Blackcomb Mountain's Rendezvous Lodge at Whistler Blackcomb Resort in Whistler, British Columbia, roughly a two-hour drive north of Vancouver along the Sea to Sky Highway [2][3]. Built by the Doppelmayr Garaventa Group between 2007 and 2008 at a cost of CDN 51 million, it was the first lift ever to join the two side-by-side mountains [3]. The gondola spans 4.4 km across the valley and holds the record for the highest point above ground in a gondola at 436 metres above the valley floor [2][3].

Activities & Experiences

Riders cross between the two mountains in approximately 11 minutes one way, taking in panoramic views of the Coast Mountain Range, alpine forests, and the valley below [2]. Two special glass-bottom cabins offer a direct view down to the forest floor, providing a distinct perspective unavailable in standard cabins [2]. In summer, visitors can access more than 50 kilometres of hiking trails across both mountains, cross the Cloudraker Skybridge, and visit the Umbrella Bar on Whistler Mountain [2]. In winter, the gondola connects ski terrain across Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, and also operates as a sightseeing attraction [3].

Practical Access

The gondola operates during both the winter ski season and a summer sightseeing season, with a brief closure between seasons for maintenance; visitors should confirm current dates at whistler.com before travelling [2]. Operating hours run from 10 AM to 5 PM daily, and visitors planning the full summer alpine experience are advised to begin their ascent from the valley no later than 4:30 PM [2]. Winter 2026/27 sightseeing tickets are priced at CAD 158 for adults aged 19 to 64, CAD 133 for seniors 65 and over, CAD 126 for teens 13 to 18, CAD 74 for children 7 to 12, and free for children 6 and under; spring 2027 rates are lower at CAD 117 for adults [2]. Online bookings require at least three days advance notice; visitors arriving within three days can purchase tickets at the Whistler Visitor Centre [2]. A total visit of around two hours is recommended to account for connecting lifts, mountaintop exploration, and return travel [2].

Restrictions

Winter sightseeing for the 2026/27 season reopens November 20, 2026, and the Cloudraker Skybridge is closed outside its operating season [2]. Lift operating dates and times may vary, and visitors are advised to check mountain hours of operation before visiting [2]. Lines are typically longer on weekends and during holiday periods, so extra boarding time should be allowed [2].

What Makes It Distinctive

The Peak 2 Peak Gondola remains the highest gondola above ground anywhere in the world at 436 metres, and it held the world record for the longest free span between ropeway towers at 3.03 km until 2017 [3]. It is also the first Doppelmayr 3S tri-cable lift built in North America, a design type that existed in only six smaller installations across Europe at the time of its construction [3]. The combination of record-setting engineering, glass-bottom cabin options, and access to over 50 kilometres of alpine trails across two distinct mountains makes it a singular experience in North American mountain tourism [2][3].
