Boeing Future of Flight

About
What It Is
Boeing Future of Flight is an aviation museum and education center situated at the northwest corner of Paine Field in Mukilteo, Washington, approximately 25 miles north of downtown Seattle. [3][4] The 73,000-square-foot facility is owned by Snohomish County through Paine Field and operated by Boeing, having opened in December 2005 at a construction cost of 24 million dollars. [4] Its stated mission is to educate, connect, and inspire visitors through interactive and immersive aerospace experiences, and it serves as the gateway to the Boeing Everett Factory Tour. [3] The facility is funded through a county sales and use tax via a public facilities district. [4]
Activities & Experiences
The centerpiece experience is the 80-minute guided Boeing Everett Factory Tour, which takes visitors onto the balcony of the Boeing Everett Factory to observe active 777 and 777X assembly, and includes the main assembly building recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest building in the world by volume. [2][4] The 28,000-square-foot gallery contains interactive and static exhibits covering topics such as space and hypersonic travel, sustainable fuels, and autonomous aerial systems. [3][4] A Kids Zone offers hands-on activities including a Bernoulli table and coding robot demonstrations, while an Education Lab introduces visitors to how Boeing uses robotics in manufacturing. [3] The rooftop Sky Deck provides direct views of Paine Field flight operations, including private aircraft, commercial flights, and new airplane testing. [3] The flagship Boeing Store and a cafe are accessible without purchasing a ticket. [3]
Practical Access
The facility is open Monday through Sunday, 8:30am to 5:30pm, with holiday closures on November 26, December 24, December 25, December 31, and January 1. [1] Free on-site parking is available near the entrance, and public transportation from Seattle, Everett, and surrounding communities is available, though no direct routes serve the location. [3] The factory tour involves approximately 0.3 miles (0.5 km) of walking round trip and includes flights of stairs, though elevators are accessible on all floors; a wheelchair-accessible bus tour option can be arranged by contacting customer service in advance. [2] Tickets for the factory tour sell out quickly and advance booking is strongly recommended, either online or by phone at +1 (800) 464-1476. [2] Visitors are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before their scheduled tour time, as late arrivals forfeit their reservation. [2]
Restrictions
Children must be at least 4 feet (48 inches / 122 cm) tall to participate in the Boeing Everett Factory Tour; carrying children on the tour is not permitted, and visitors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. [2][3] No items of any kind are permitted on the factory tour, including bags, electronics, cameras, phones, pens, food, or drinks; complimentary lockers are provided in the lobby. [2] Personal translation devices may be used throughout the facility but are prohibited during the factory tour itself. [2] Pets are not allowed inside the facility, on the tour, or left in vehicles in the parking area; service animals are welcome in all public areas and on the tour. [3] Photography and video are permitted in the facility but are prohibited during the factory tour, and commercial use of any images taken on-site requires written consent from Boeing. [3] No food or drink, including water, is permitted inside the facility, with the exception of baby bottles. [3] Refunds require at least two hours notice before a scheduled tour; reservations forfeited due to late arrival may be rescheduled only if the visitor calls at least one hour in advance. [2]
What Makes It Distinctive
Boeing Future of Flight is the sole public access point for tours of the Boeing Everett Factory, which holds the Guinness World Record for the largest building in the world by volume, making it one of the few places on earth where visitors can observe wide-body commercial aircraft being assembled in real time. [2][4] The combination of an interactive gallery covering emerging aerospace technologies, a planespotting deck above an active international airport, and direct factory access creates a layered experience unavailable at conventional aviation museums. [3][4] The facility operates as a collaboration between Boeing, Snohomish County, and Paine Field Airport, giving it an institutional connection to active commercial aviation production rather than purely historical preservation.
